Manhattan Beach lots are small, and that changes how demolition works here. A typical Sand Section lot is about 30 feet wide and 90 feet deep. Homes sit close together, and the walk streets have no car access at all. Those houses take their vehicle access from the alley in back. A full size moving truck will not fit down most of those alleys. We started this company in 1994, and our mailing address has been in Manhattan Beach for decades. Most Sand Section lots run about 2,700 square feet, roughly 30 feet by 90 feet. The house usually fills that footprint, three stories tall, right out to the setback. There is no yard to stage a machine in and no room to park a bin. We work off the alley, load debris straight into the truck, and keep the walkway open.
Tree Section lots are wider and flatter, and the mature trees are the whole point of the neighborhood. We box in the trunks so the skid steer never touches a root zone. Hill Section jobs bring slope and old retaining walls. Those lots often need grading and trenching once the structure is down, ready for the new foundation.
Demolition permits in Manhattan Beach go through the Community Development Department, in the Building and Safety Division. Before the permit is issued, the city wants a Construction and Demolition Waste Management Plan. At least 65 percent of what leaves the site has to be recycled, with weight tickets as proof. Rules get updated, so confirm the current forms with the city before you set a date.
Construction hours here are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday starts at 9 a.m., and Sunday is off along with city holidays.
