One Operator for Pacific Palisades Demolition and Dirt Work

Pacific Palisades is a hard place to work if you do not know it. The Alphabet Streets are narrow and lined with parked cars. Castellammare clings to the bluffs above Pacific Coast Highway. The Highlands and Marquez Knolls climb the hillside, so most lots sit on a slope. We have hauled out of every part of Pacific Palisades. Since the January 2025 fire, Pacific Palisades has been in a long rebuild. We did cleanup work here after the fire. Most lots are cleared now, and homes are going back up one block at a time. Rustic Canyon and the Riviera bring their own access problems, with tight driveways and mature trees. We handle the demolition and hauling part of the work. It is dusty, heavy work that has to run quietly and on schedule.

We are Southwest Hauling, Demolition & Disposal. Greg has run the company since 1994 and still runs the crews. California License #792182, insured, with three crews, our trucks and skid steers, and a truck yard in the South Bay. Most of our Palisades work is lot cleanup and concrete removal ahead of a rebuild. That means old slabs, footings, driveways and retaining walls broken out and hauled away. We also do grading and trenching to get the pad ready for your builder. For 20 years we held City of Los Angeles contracts on foreclosed and vacant properties. Permit paperwork and access rules are normal for us. We did cleanup work in the Palisades after the fire.

Clearing a Palisades Lot for the Rebuild

The Army Corps finished its debris removal program in the Palisades in 2025. That took the burned structures and the top layer of soil off most lots. What is often left behind is the older concrete: foundations, slabs, driveways, pool shells and retaining walls. We break that out, load it and haul it off so the lot is ready for the builder.

Pulling an old foundation changes what the city asks for. LADBS says removing a conventional foundation during demolition disturbs the soil next to it. That soil has to come out and be recompacted, which takes a grading permit and a compaction report. We plan the removal with your soils engineer and leave the pad at the grade they called for. Call 310-546-4855 and we will come look at the lot.

Permits and Access in Pacific Palisades

Most of Pacific Palisades sits in a hillside grading area, so LADBS looks closely at the dirt work. A grading permit is required to excavate or fill, and to import or export earth. LADBS also maps Palisades Geohazard Risk Assessment Zones, or PGRAZ. Orange zones are lots on or beside steep slopes and old landslide areas; yellow zones sit below them. Both need a combined geology and soils report, so check your address with LADBS early.

Access is the other half of the work here. Castellammare sits above Pacific Coast Highway on switchback roads with no shoulder. The Alphabet Streets are narrow and parked full through the day, and Highlands lots often drop away behind the house. We size the truck to the street. When a ten wheeler will not fit, we send a smaller unit and shuttle loads. Much of our work in the Palisades is under an NDA. We do not discuss whose property we are on.

Call (310) 546-4855

What drives the cost of demolition and hauling in Pacific Palisades?
Cost tracks the amount of material on the lot and how hard the lot is to reach. Distance to the disposal site matters as well. Steep Palisades lots, narrow streets and long carry distances all slow a crew down. Concrete and soil are heavy, so tonnage counts too. We give free estimates after seeing the site.
Do we still need demolition work if the Army Corps already cleared our Pacific Palisades lot?
Often yes. The federal program took the burned structure and a layer of soil. Old foundations, slabs, driveways, pool shells and retaining walls usually stayed. Removing those is a separate job, and pulling a foundation can trigger a grading permit and compaction report. Confirm the scope with LADBS or your engineer before you schedule anything.
Can you get equipment onto a narrow Pacific Palisades street?
Usually. We run skid steers that fit through a side yard and trucks sized to the street. On the switchback roads in Castellammare or the tight blocks in the Alphabet Streets, we stage smaller loads and shuttle. We sweep behind the trucks so the street stays clear. Call 310-546-4855 and describe the access.
